How to look after your Gold and Silver Handmade Rings

Caring for your handmade gold and silver rings

If you own a high class handmade ring or jewelry, make sure that you follow these care tips to ensure the long life of all your handmade treasures.

Caring for your handmade gold and silver rings

  1. Protect them from scratches, dents, liquid spills and extreme temperature. Remove them when you have to do things (i.e. cooking, gardening, and cleaning) that may expose the rings to harmful elements in the environment. Do not wear your handmade rings when swimming or bathing nor place them near window sills where they will be exposed to the heat of the sun.
  2. Store them in re-sealable plastic bags or jewelry bags with a silica gel sachet. This will prevent your handmade jewelry from tarnishing. The silica gel will absorb the moisture on the rings and preserve their luster and beauty. Do not place handmade rings with opals and pearls in plastic bags though as this will only damage them.
  3. You should wipe your handmade rings clean before storage in order to remove the dirt and oils. There are commercial silver and gold chemical cleaners sold in the market that you can use. You may also wash them in warm soapy water if the chemical cleaners are not available, especially if your rings are among those with gemstones that are highly sensitive to chemical compounds. You should also dry them thoroughly using a soft cloth.

With these proper care and preventative maintenance measures, handmade gold and silver rings should be able to last for years.
